What does it take to spark a shift in an ecosystem?
And what kinds of shifts do we need to imagine for the evolving Tech–Art–Science landscape in India?
These were the questions at the heart of TechTonic Shifts, part of British Council’s Creative Convergence held at the Bangalore International Center on 6th of November. We invited a mixed room of practitioners – from museums, research labs, design studios, government, startups, universities, and independent creative practices – to sit together in intimate roundtable conversations over tea and snacks. The room buzzed we mapped the current state of the field, named its critical gaps and dreamt up its possibilities.
By the end, each guest jotted down a spark—a small but potent idea, a personal manifestation, a nudge toward change in their own realm. Here, you’re invited to explore distilled extracts from those larger reflections. Hover to see who sparked what, notice where disciplines converge or diverge, and wander through curated clusters where patterns emerged. May these 51 sparks inspire your own: so together, the next flame in India’s Tech–Art–Science ecosystem can ignite.

THEMATICS OF DISCUSSION
Building collaboration in TechArt means nurturing international, interdisciplinary communities of practice that share skills, spark experimentation, and create resilient, decentralised networks. By mapping India’s fragmented arts-and-technology landscape and supporting practitioners outside traditional institutions, these communities can generate fresh ideas, new models of working, and stronger commercial pathways. Well-designed collaborations not only inspire practitioners but also connect them with industry partners, expanding access to resources and amplifying their capacity to innovate collectively.
A sustainable TechArt ecosystem requires strengthening institutional confidence, expanding learning pathways, and easing logistical barriers so artists can work with emerging technologies without friction. International exchange helps amplify practices, create visibility, and unlock professional opportunities that local ecosystems may not yet support. Sustainability also involves enabling artists to critique the social impact of technology, while offering practical mechanisms—administrative, technical, and infrastructural—that allow ambitious ideas to take root and circulate both within India and globally.
Building inclusion in TechArt means confronting power imbalances inherited from traditional art spaces and rethinking who participates, who decides, and whose stories are preserved. Artists are leveraging technology to challenge systemic barriers and invite new, diverse audiences into cultural conversations. International collaborations can decentralise cultural production away from historic centres, while also uplifting indigenous knowledge systems. Through shared creation and long-term exchange, TechArt can grow into a more equitable ecosystem that honours multiple identities, narratives, and futures.
