Supporting Artists: Monica Hirano (Brazil) and Tiz Creel (UK)

An improvised, interactive theatre performance that provokes conversations about the climate emergency through a humorous, absurd and intriguing interplay between audiences, human and AI performers.

Artificial intelligence became an equal stage partner in creating a narrative for climate change in this improvised, interactive theatre performance. Improvisational theatre relied on a series of suggestions from the audience to spontaneously create a story, a characteristic similar to how an AI model worked in extrapolating meaning from seemingly unconnected prompts. Each performance lasted 45 to 60 minutes and was unique and different from the others, owing to the characteristic of improv theatre and the AI’s ability to generate unique prompts every time. The show’s live, experiential, and innovative nature brought discussions about climate change and its implications for humanity more viscerally to its audiences.
