MAYA, THE CYBORG IN A SAREE
The project explores two main worlds – The hyper-real techno culture that we inhabit (the contemporary sub culture of the youth steeped in social media, gaming, internet and AI), and the inherited world of customs, cultural beliefs and heritage of the participants.
The film speculates on a future India, drawing from its complexities in today’s time. Set in around 2050’s, the story follows Maya, a cyborg fallen into prostitution and her trauma as she is bought and sold for her organic parts and memories. Imagining seamless bio-chemical devices for futuristic possibilities like memory trade, we dive into Maya’s memories of having loved and lost as she tries to piece together recent events.
This project responds to UN’s Sustainable Development Goal 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure
